Unexpected cost

A few weeks ago One of my Tenants in one of my properties phoned me and asked me to replate the letterbox outside the house. My first question was why? Well it seemed that some people had decided to go on a drunken rampage and smash up every single mailbox that they could in the street.

So, I headed off to the local hardware store and looked at what it would take to fix. There was the letterbox, the post, the bolts, the bag of cement to secure the post. Then finally, I had to dig a new hole in the ground, mix up the cement, install the post, then bolt the new letterbox to the top. Of couse, as the hoodlums had busted not only the lod letterbox, but broken the old post off just above ground level I had to dig it out as a broken pipe sticking up 2 inches out of the ground was an accident waiting to happen.

These thugs had cost me a few hundred dollars in materials and nearly half a day in time - and almost everyone else in the street as well. There were a few that survived - and they were the ones that were built into a brick pillar.

Now I just hope this was a one-off event as I don’t feel like building a brick pillar to prevent this from happening again.
